The way your hair looks can have a profound effect on your presence. Think about what the right style can do for you… And, of course, let’s not forget about the confidence builder question… What salon did you go to?
I know this is one question I always ask someone with a gorgeous hairstyle, I so desire. As we all need a hairstylist who can slay our hair and keep it healthy at the same time.
Choosing the right stylist is essential, but ensuring the salon is the right fit is just as important. This is why Choosing a New Salon Requires Research
So What to Look for Before Trying Out a New Hair Salon? Well, beauties, keep reading!
A top-notch salon search is similar to test driving a car; you look around, read reviews, and examine other vehicles. Well, beauties, you must do the same thing with your salon options!
While looking for a new salon, here are some tips to help.
What Is The Salons Reputation
One of the most important things you should consider when scouting for a new hair salon is reputation. Reputation isn’t easily gained in the beauty industry, but once it’s there, it is for a good reason.
And if the salon is a personal favorite of celebrities, that is always a bonus since celebrities must uphold the highest beauty standards possible and won’t just go anywhere.
Better yet, if you seek an exclusive and luxurious hair experience, why not choose a salon with a celebrity stylist? For example, if you’re in Miami, the Danny Jelaca Hair Salon is among the best places to get high-end luxury services.
Read Client Reviews, Both Good And Bad
Client reviews speak volumes when it comes to hair salons. Reading reviews about a hair salon before trying it out is always a good idea.
Read the reviews carefully and look for patterns. Is there a growing number of complaints about poor customer service? Has the salon been criticized for its uncleanliness? Patterns usually paint an accurate picture.
Remember, it’s rare for consumers to leave reviews when they’ve had a good experience with a business; however, they are quick to tell the world if they had a bad one. Hence, considering the good with the bad is critical since some clients are to blame, as many don’t know how to properly deal with a bad experience at the salon.
Look At The Salons Social Media And Website
Take a look at the salon’s social media pages and websites for photos (and even videos) of their work. Avoid spending your money at a salon that doesn’t have many CLEAR pictures or videos of its clients. END OF STORY!
Having an idea of what your hair will look like once your stylist is finished is essential. Additionally, you should know the stylists’ quality level, just in case your “go-to” isn’t available one day. There may be a hair emergency that requires the next available stylist to fix it right away.
Ask Around…Word Of Mouth, Still Counts
It is sometimes best to learn about the best places through word of mouth, such as from a trusted friend. But make sure they have a similar hair type and texture to you. As what looks good on one person doesn’t always look another. This brings us to the next tip.
Look At The Clientele
One size does not fit all. So you need to examine the clientele closely. Are they your tribe? Meaning, the soccer mom look is hell-no for me.
Or some outdated hairstyle that obviously has not been touched since the 80s… Hello Aqua Net. Are not for me.
On the same token, you could be a bit reserved, and a place with all new trends can be intimidating, and you do not want that either. And, of course, if a hair salon has celebrities as its regular clients, then they are doing something great.Â
Check Out The Available Services
Next up, you should also consider what services are available at the new hair salon you want to visit. Some salons offer hair treatments, coloring, extensions, or specialty care.
Based on your needs, you should opt for a hair salon with all the available services you want to try out and more! Usually, the more services a hair salon has, the greater its expertise. For me, a salon that offers hair extensions always rings high on my list, with being up to date with hairstyles and newer, better ways to create glamorous hair.
Is the Salon Clean And Modern
My biggest pet peeve is walking into a filthy salon that looks like it hasn’t been updated since the 90s. A sleek, white modern salons speaks to me!
But my taste isn’t necessarily yours. So when looking to find the right salon, you should examine how the stylists maintain their workstations, how they dress, and the overall appearance of the building. Imagine getting your hair done by a stylist with a messy work area and a station full of hair from previous clients. Sounds a bit uninviting, doesn’t it?
What Hair Products Do They Use
You can’t go wrong when you visit a hair salon with high-end quality hair products such as Leonor Greyl, Oribe, or Truss. If a hair salon respects itself with high-quality products, it will also respect its customers and their needs as well.
Schedule A Consultation
So you’ve done all of the above in finding a salon, the next step is to schedule a consultation. Yes, no quickies. Every appointment should start with an in-depth consultation, whether hair coloring, color, cut, or style.
This is the time for you to ask tons of questions. If you do not speak up, you’re at fault!
Also, it’s an excellent time to see the quality of the hair stylist. Are they listening, and more importantly, are they responding honestly, meaning they are considering your face shape, hair texture, the health of your hair, and even lifestyle habits?
In addition, they should prioritize your hair’s health and offer alternatives if your preferred cut or color isn’t (safely) possible. This is a good thing, don’t be offended! Most bad hairstyles result from clients refusing to listen to or not liking what the stylist suggested and trying to do it themselves!
It’s All About What’s Best For You
While all of these tips to finding the best salon are essential, remember you are the star of the show, so to speak. And for me, since I want to get the celebrity treatment, I always say…trust your gut if it doesn’t feel right!
A trial run with a blow dry is a perfect way of testing this. Despite not showing their skills with scissors or a color brush, it is a good way to learn about them, their skill set, their style, their personality, do you mesh well?
In my opinion, a salon that does not know how to master a blowout will never be able to keep me. The blow dryer alone will not give you those sleek, voluminous results! They must use the right tools and techniques for your hair type to achieve the best results.
